DATAMIND & MQ’s Workshop: Using Clinical Data for Research

This was the second instalment of DATAMIND and MQ’s workshop series on mental health data science, providing a forum for early career researchers in the mental health data science community to come together and explore innovative data science approaches in the field.

Part 1: Using Clinical Data for Research: Case Study from the South London and Maudsley Biomedical Research Centre Conducted by Matthew Broadbent and Amelia Jewell

  • Explored the benefits and challenges of utilising clinical data for research.
  • Topics included:
    • Benefits and potential for research.
    • Questions regarding data quality.
    • Natural Language Processing (NLP) for extracting information from clinical text.
    • Understanding performance metrics.

Defining complex data extracts to address research inquiries.

Part 2: Using Clinical Data for Research: Case Study from the South London and Maudsley Biomedical Research Centre Facilitated by Matthew Broadbent, Amelia Jewell, and Risha Govind

  • Conducted a workshop to examine challenges and outline solutions for extracting clinical data to address real-world research queries.
  • Provided support for multisite projects.

Part 3A: Data Linkage Led by Matthew Broadbent and Amelia Jewell

  • Introduction to clinical data linkage methods and challenges.

Part 3B: Data Linkage Led by Katrina Davis

  • Shared knowledge and experiences regarding the utilisation of linked data for research purposes.
